History of the Lake Norman Polar Bear Club

New Year’s Day, 2009 – Five friends living in The Point decided to start the Lake Norman Polar Bear Club by jumping off the docks of The Point Lake and Golf Club into Freezing Cold Lake Norman.

After taking the plunge, the original five Polar Bear Club members agreed to donate $100 each to Hope at the Point Foundation.

One year later, the original five Polar Bear Club members partnered with Hope at the Point Foundation to expand the Club and raise more money for such a great cause.

We added the first New Year’s Eve Polar Bear Club Party at Shoals Saloon and Grille in Mooresville which was a huge success and a ton of fun!

The New Year’s Day Plunge was a HUGE success in 2010! We added more than 50 new Polar Bear Club members and a great crowd of spectators and raised over $7000 for Hope at the Point Foundation!

This year we are again expanding our expectations as we strive to make this the BIGGEST and BEST Polar Bear Event yet!

We will again host a New Year’s Eve Party at Shoals Saloon and Grille which promises to be THE NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY anywhere around Lake Norman!!! The New Year’s Eve Party is $50 per person which gains you access to the New Year’s Eve Polar Bear Party, food, music, dancing and fun plus two drink coupons. There will be a cash bar available throughout the event. With great bands, dancing, cold spirits and fantastic food, this year’s New Year’s Eve Party can not be missed!

New Year’s Day, we will welcome Polar Bear Club members of all ages starting at 11AM to join us behind the Tavern which is in the Village at The Point Lake and Golf Club and faces the 18^th fairway. Join us for music, food, coffee, hot chocolate, and spirits, all designed to keep you warm before and after the plunge. We will also have fun activities for the kids before the Plunge plus prizes for the most creative hat and outfit!

Following the plunge there will be an ‘After Plunge New Year’s Day Party’ at Shoals where there will be great food, football, and every Plunger will receive a free cocktail of choice!!!

With your donation you become an official 2011 Lake Norman Polar Bear Club Member and receive a t-shirt and access to all New Year’s Day Plunge fun!

We also encourage you to start a TEAM!!! There will be a special prize to the TEAM which raises the MOST money for charity!!! Each TEAM Member must meet the minimums above, but you can get friends, family and companies to sponsor your TEAM!!! Results of each TEAM will be announced live on New Year’s Day and posted on the website following the Plunge.

You MUST complete a registration/waiver form prior to the event. Forms will also be available at the event. Payment can be made online early using the PayPal buttons above or simply come to the New Year’s Eve Party at Shoals or the New Year’s Day Plunge. Checks, Cash and Credit Cards accepted.
